librarian.love.

So I'm on fall break, and I'm living my stress-free week on campus. LB is spending the morning with me at work in the music/dance library, and we're downloading CDs to our itunes/zune softwares on our laptops. I just fell in love with Trombone Shorty. We have his new CD, "Backatown" in our collection, and from the first song, I'm hooked. Currently jamming to his amazingness, which has me thinking about a Katrina Celebration for my Dance Lab project (I should explain exactly what I'm supposed to be doing for my final project in a future blog lol).

In other news, I'm choreographing a dance for Janet Jackson's "I Get So Lonely" [the original, non-Blackstreet version] for this semester's Rhythm-N-Motion show. It's an exploration of the sensual I guess. I'll probably post a sneak peek sometime soon, but for now I shall say it involves chairs, and the point is to be subtle and sexy (not provocative or slutty--think "sweatpants, hair tied, chillin with no makeup on"). When I showed it in the group, they said the room got hotter! So flattering. I've been working on it since freshman year of high school, so it's time to finish it and get it out of my system (if ONLY I can finally finish the choreography!)

Currently:hyped up on a cup of coffee and nothing else, so this will be one of my longer posts. I've decided to use my roommates [LB and Candi] in my dance for a couple of reasons:
  1. I wanna explore using non-dancers (or people that assume they're not dancers, because I swear they're just in disguise, because I've caught both of them in the middle of amazing choreo that they just didn't realize) in a piece
  2. They're my roommates! (which means no scheduling rehearsal times or worrying about where they are--dance practice can be a study break)
  3. They understand my craziness and my point-of-view
So yeah, I think that's all of my blogging for now. If I'm still hyper in an hour or so, expect another post!
