african= worthwhile pain.

So I had African I yesterday, and my body still feels the pain.Class is always quite fun though. This class kicks my butt in the best way possible. We learned the Hongwe, which is supposed to resemble the bird by the same name, and tell a story. So complicated to me. I'd get the arms, and forget about dropping my pelvis (which causes unnecessary strain to the back), then I'd get the pelvis, and kill the arms. Sigh. Polyrhythm and polycentrism are not my friends, but they're slowly learning to show me some love. It's also interesting to understand some movements we do in Rhythm-N-Motion. I may just decide to do our base dance in the show this semester, and let the two inform one another (who knows, I may be able to do that stomp step--which might be the Nigerian Stomp, but I'm not completely sure--better than I can now!). I'm excited, though I'm trying to get over the habits of (1.) biting my lip as I dance and (2.) rolling my eyes when I feel like I'm messing up or doing a horrible job at dancing. I want to get rid of these habits as soon as possible (like before Friday when I meet Prof. F. Nii Yartey).
