I prefer friendship to "networking".

I need to go back to posting more often. Problem is, I don't know that people will like what I have to say/sing/dance. And then I remind myself that this blog started for me. =)

That being said, here's some music to listen to while you read (a shoutout to President K):

A lot of things have been falling in place in my life. And, some people would say that it's as a result of networking, but when  I was thinking about it, all it really is to me is friendship. My friends see something that they think I could use, and they send it my way. I ask them for advice about everything under the sun, and they do the same. And we have a mutual respect, if not love, for one another.

For example, today I received a really cool email from LEDA (shoutouts to LEDA at http://www.ledascholars.org/) about 50+ free ebooks being offered by Amazon and Kaplan for test prep, interviewing skills, grad school, entrepreneurship....needless to say I now own 31 ebooks on everything except MCATS. I looked at it and was like "wow, I know so many people that could benefit from this," and then proceeded to email it to at least 4 student groups on my campus, alum friends, my "big sis", and President K. The only bad part about it is that it wouldn't foraward the links in the email, so they have to look up each title that they want.

Also, I have another student hair appointment this Sunday on campus (shoutouts to Maria for straightening my hair for my birthday and Chanelle for braiding it this Sunday). I feel like those relationships are mutually beneficial. Maria helped me when I was in the middle of my own exaggerated hair emergency and had nowhere to go, and was influencial in keeping me set on growing my hair out. Chanelle and I both benefit too, because I'll be rocking her hairdo on campus(giving her all the credit), she gets money, and I get to save money. And in both cases, students who step on campus asking "Where can I go to get my hair done?" have someplace to go,and my friends have a side hustle. =)

Another video/shoutout (to Soulfège ! Love you guys!):

Also, while I remember, participate in the "Take Back The Mic" campaign, or at least vote for your favorite video!

Back to friendships, Jonathan and I have conversations every once in a while about music (and now Ghana!), and I definately take his advice to heart. Just him as as example of what I could do is inspiring, and anytime I can tune in to Derrick's show, I do. I'm rooting for them on the sidelines as a fan, but I also respect them as people.

So, don't network just to put yourself ahead of the game. That's too superficial for me. Friendships in the end are what make me the happiest.

Update:the covers are on hold until I can do a better job of recording them(like after I get back to campus this Saturday).
